E-commerce in the GCC: how beauty brands win on Amazon.ae, Noon and beyond

Marketplace fundamentals for the Gulf — content, pricing, reviews, retail media — and why e-commerce is now the smartest first channel.

E-commerce is no longer the channel you add after retail succeeds. For new beauty and personal care brands entering the GCC, marketplaces are increasingly the first channel — the place where demand is proven, reviews are earned and pricing is tested before a single retail buyer meeting.

The two platforms that matter most

Amazon.ae and Noon dominate UAE e-commerce, with Amazon.sa and Noon Saudi mirroring them in the Kingdom. Each has its own content standards, advertising tools and fulfilment options. Treating them as one channel with copy-pasted listings is the most common mistake we see.

Content is your shelf

On a marketplace, your product page is your shelf placement, your sales rep and your packaging combined. Arabic and English titles, benefit-led bullet points, professional imagery and A+ content are not optional extras — they are the cost of entry.

Reviews are the currency

GCC shoppers read reviews carefully, and a product with fewer than a dozen reviews struggles to convert regardless of ad spend. Legitimate review-building — through early buyer programs, sampling and follow-up — should be a planned part of the launch budget.

Retail media: pay to be seen

Sponsored product ads on Amazon and Noon are how new listings get visibility. Expect to invest in retail media for at least the first six months, and measure it on total sales lift, not just advertised sales.

Why this matters for retail negotiations

Twelve months of marketplace sell-out data — conversion rates, review scores, repeat purchase — transforms a retail buyer conversation. You stop asking for a chance and start presenting evidence.
